MAC Week 2 Gambling Corner

Week 2 of MACtion is right around the corner, and I am ready to give out my gambling picks for week 2. I will give a more detailed preview of the BG game tonight.

Akron vs Ohio -23.5

This is the first game of the week, and in my opinion, the hardest game to pick. Ohio is coming off of a tough loss to CMU 30-27. The Bobcats played well on offense, Curtis Rourke filling in nicely for his older brother but the offense stalled later in the game when they were needed the most. Freshman Zack Gibson did he best under center for Akron but the Zips fell 58-13 to a much more talented Broncos team. This game is so hard to pick because Akron is really bad but 23.5 is such a high number. Ohio looked solid in their opener but they were off balance all night. Both the offense and defense were perfectly average and so taking a team that has to win by 24 or more is a risk I am not willing to take. I think this Zips team needs a win eventually. They will not get it on Tuesday but I believe they could keep this game close. Give me the Zips even though losing on Akron will make me sick.

Pick: Akron +23.5

Kent State vs Bowling Green +18.5

Ah, our beloved Falcons are ready to take the field again. After a 38-3 clapping, the Orange and Brown looked to redeem themselves. On the other hand, the Kent State Golden Flashes are coming off of a solid win against EMU 27-23. Bowling Green looked terrible on both sides of the ball, however, the defense looked better considering the offense left them on the field around 40 minutes. Kent State's defense played quite well against the run against EMU, which is bad for us as our throwing game was horrific and I am sure the run is our strongest asset. Kent played very balanced on offense, rushing and throwing for over 200 yards so game planning for Loeffler and his staff will prove difficult. Despite Dustin Crum being the best QB in the MAC, I believed that the Falcons' defense will stand tall. The defense looked good despite being left out to dry last week and the offense can only get better. Expect young Matt McDonald to have a good week of practice and be fired up to prove he belongs. 18.5 is a ton of points so I will bet on our lads. Give me BGSU and the points here.

Pick: Bowling Green +18.5

Miami-OH vs Buffalo -9

This may be my favorite pick of the week. Buffalo is coming off of a 49-30 win over NIU. Buffalo may not have played amazing but they understood that they could just run the ball all over the field and control the clock. NIU scored a few touchdowns late in the game to make it close but the Bulls looked as good as ever in this rematch of the 2018 MAC Championship game. On the other hand Miami had a solid win over Ball State. Despite all the hype around veteran Ball State the RedHawks were able to win on some last second heroics. Miami had to turn to backup QB AJ Mayer after Brett Gabbert left with an injury. In my opinion, this game is all Buffalo. They are the home team, the Bulls are more physical, and they well run the ball down Miami's throat. Jaret Patterson will have another great game and Vantrease is a fine game manager.

Pick: Buffalo -9

Eastern Michigan vs Ball State -8

Both of these teams suffered tough one possession losses in week 1. EMU came in with zero expectations, and Ball State was saying Detroit or bust. I hate when a team with zero merit, no bowl appearances in 7 years, and a poor 2010s decade coming into 2020 saying it's Detroit or bust. They boasted some incredible pieces such as an offense that could score at will. Well Drew Plitt threw for just one touchdown and despite 300 yards and threw an interception within the last minute of the game to lose it for the Cardinals. Eastern plays a much more physical game and can keep this one close if not win it. I'll take the Eagles and the touchdown advantage.

Pick: Eastern Michigan +8

Toledo vs Western Michigan -2.5

Both of these teams had huge week one wins against inferior opponents. This will likely be the best game of the week and for good reason. Both of these teams have goo running games and play physical defense. WMU allowed Akron only roughly 100 yards through the air and won the game 58-13. On the other hand, Toledo held our Falcons to just 120 yards in the air and got nasty at the line of scrimmage as they ran for over 300. I will never root for Toledo, ever, under any circumstances but in this game they will hold my money. The Rockets are the front-runner for the MAC West title and they have shown nothing but strength early in 2020.

Pick: Toledo +2.5

Central Michigan vs Northern Illinois +6

Central Michigan had a nice win over the Bobcats 30-27. CMU's defense was able to stand tall, not allowing any points in the 4th quarter of the game. NIU on the other hand lost 49-30 against Buffalo. I am going to lean NIU here as they actually played quite well against the MAC frontrunner despite a few turnovers and mishaps. Central Michigan's Daniel Richardson played quite well in his first start but I believe this Husky team to get hungry and put this freshman in his place. I love taking a home team with some points and I think the betting public will love CMU making me feel even more confident.

Pick: NIU +6
