MAC Week 3 Gambling Corner

It is Week 3 of MACtion, and I am back to make you all some money! Always bet responsibly please, and call the helpline if you have a problem. I have some great feelings about this week. 



Buffalo vs Bowling Green +31.5

Short answer, take Buffalo. Long answer, BG is really really bad, take Buffalo. Bowling Green is a year away from being a year away, so the To The Moon hashtag will have to wait. Buffalo is amazing at running the football, and great at defense. Bowling Green is terrible at stopping the run, and cannot move the football. BG has lost by more than 31 in both games so far, so this game is really answer. I love my Falcons, but finally I have to bet against them. 

Pick: Buffalo -31.5



Akron vs Kent State -23.5

This is actually a big time rivalry for these schools, as the battle for the Wagon Wheel is set to take place on ESPN. However, this game will not be exciting. Akron is still winless in their last 20 games, and Kent State just beat down on BGSU by 40. Dustin Crum is going to have a special night, as well as their read option game that Akron will fail against. Akron's Freshman QB Zach Gibson has some spice to him but he will not be enough to keep this game close. Nuke Laloosh, don't think just throw. Kent is really good, Akron is horrible, just take the Golden Flashes. 

Pick: Kent State -23.5




Northern Illinois vs Ball State -14

This game is my hardest one to pick. Reputation still stands for NIU as the class of the MAC, but they are 0-2. Ball State is also frustrating because they are average at best, yet came into this season saying "Detroit or bust". The Cardinals have not even been solid since 2013, so for Ball State to say that stuff bothers me. Neither of these teams are all that good, so I will take the 2 touchdown advantage. 

Pick: NIU +14


Western Michigan vs Central Michigan -2

A nice little rivalry here as the two best schools in Michigan do battle. WMU is coming off of a huge win vs Toledo and I think that ride that momentum high as they continue to roll. Central Michigan has looked sharp as well but WMU is a lot more explosive. They have an offense that can really take the top off with Kato Eleby and Dwayne Eskridge. Central has beaten NIU badly this year but considering the struggles of NIU I think WMU has the better resume. 

Pick: Western Michigan +2




Toledo vs Eastern Michigan +7

I thought Toledo was going to win the MAC West until they blew that game against WMU is hilarious fashion. Once again though, I will bet on the Rockets. I enjoy watching them lose but this EMU has shown zero fight in all 4 quarters of the game and they cannot stop this Toledo offense. Eli Peters is much better than expected and I would expect him to have another solid night as Toledo dominates time of possession for a big win. 

Pick: Toledo -7



Bonus Bet: Buffalo -18 1st Half

Buffalo is by far the best team in the MAC. Take them first half before they put the JV team in against BGSU's starters.

    Looking to take either Buff or Kent State tonight fairly large. You think Kent State at 26.5 is too high? Which would be your better play? Good reviews, btw.

  Transfer Portal 2024     The transfer portal in my opinion is fun, good for players, and actually helps a school like Bowling Green.      The portal also has so many opportunities for different players. You have studs from the G5 move up to the SEC, P5 backups dropping down to start at G5 schools. You have FCS starters jumping up to FBS, also FCS backups who would rather be a backup at a FBS school. Many casual fans do not realize how valuable depth guys are and scout team players truly make big differences in practice. Even G5 guys would rather be a backup at an SEC school. So in my mind, the portal is a plus value.      This list may not be 100% accurate but is updated to the best of my knowledge. I am going to give my opinions on each player, not meaning any disrespect but just an honest assessment of each player's impact in my opinion. State of the Program 12/4/23

Bowling Green Clinches First Winning Record Since 2015!! (photo via BG Athletics)     Scot Loeffler said it weeks ago, this team has a chance to do something special. I would say beating a Power 5 team on the road, going 5-3 in the MAC and blowing some teams out qualifies as special. Think back to just a few years ago. Mike Jinks' BG team was going 2-10, players getting arrested, zero culture, zero love for the school and the traditions. Now Coach Loeffler in another seemingly do or die season has showed up, showed out, and needs a contract extension ASAP. Now that I am no longer traveling, let's cover a few recent football topics.  1. 4 Game Winning Streak     For the first time since 2015, Bowling Green football won 4 games in a row. Buffalo beat us last year, Akron has had our number recently under Tom Arth, Ball State is still coached by MAC Champions Mike Nue and had 22 seniors, and Kent was 5-0 in their last 5 against us. State of the Program 10/16/23

State of the Program 10/16/23 (photo via BG Athletics) Vibes?     The vibes should be good across BG nation. The win on the road at Buffalo was HUGE. I said it in my recap blog (will publish tonight), this outcome makes perfect sense. BG is going to be  inconsistent, meaning that after getting blown out 27-0 they will win this much needed road contest. Going into the year, I really thought this team could have been 1-6 with only an FCS win. I thought more likely was 2-5. I really did not give 3-4 much of a thought, so despite the 2 blowout MAC losses, I am quite impressed with the current state of the program. Getting a P5 win is always a legacy win. Even a 4-8 or 3-9 season I would not look at as an absolute nuclear failure for any MAC team if you sprinkle in a P5 win. BG got a bunch of national attention especially after GTech beat undefeated Miami on the road the next week.
