State of the Program 12.17.2020

Well, yikes, geeze, andddddddd yikes again. Those were some of the thought I had throughout the 2020 season. However, I am PUMPED for 2021 and beyond. Turning this program around is almost as hard as putting a man on the moon. The fact that Loeffler only had one kid waiver after an 0-5 disaster of a season further proves he is the right man for the job. Let's take a look at some numbers. 12-41 That is Bowling Green's record over the past 5 season. Yikes it has felt that bad too as most of the losses have been absolute blowouts. This record was due to a few factors but mostly: Dino Babers lackluster recruiting Mike Jinks terrible attrition and development Chris Kingston being a flat out idiot Babers won with a roster of 98% guys from the Dave Clawson regime. Mike Jinks was then brought into a bad position, having zero experience on his staff and never stepping foot in Ohio. I actually liked Jinks as a guy but he was just nowhere near qualified to be a head coach. He recruited we

2021 Recruiting Class Recap

So today was National Signing Day, and in my opinion Bowling Green was able to seriously address their issues. They were able to add another QB to the room, as well as add 8 linemen, 4 on offense and 4 on defense. The highest rated recruit was a WR which is huge because we need serious talent there. I will give you a great recap of the class in no particular order. I will mention as always recruiting is not nearly as important as player development but it is still fun to get excited. Here, we, go! Breakdown by position QB: 1 RB: 2 WR: 2 TE: 2 OL 4 ATH: 1 DL: 4 LB: 1 DB: 4 Breakdown by state Ohio: 8 Illinois: 4 Pennsylvania: 2 Florida: 2 Kansas: 1 Kentucky: 1 Michigan: 1 Indiana: 1 Missouri: 1 1. Drew Gunther QB, Pennsylvania (Syracuse transfer) Drew is coming in with 4 years of eligibility left as a redshirt freshman. I always get excited when he steal kids from Power 5 schools. He is now the 6th QB on the roster, and is the 5th with freshman eligibility, which is crazy young for a QB

Top 10 BGSU Offensive Players 2000-2020

Top 10 BGSU Offensive Players 2000-2020  I thought it would be fun to make a list of the top 10 Falcons offensive players from the last 2 decades. I will start by saying I am only doing offensive because it is much easier to do than defense. Defensive stats are much more team based and are less objective to define. Now on that topic, every list like these can be very subjective. Your stats are based on many factors out of your control such as: How good was the team around you Quality of coach Timing These all play a huge factor in anyone' career and even life. Bad timing can leave a quality QB as the backup for 3 years depending on the current depth chart. A bad coach, and even a bad team gives you less chances to succeed and not the greatest players to support your aspirations. So just keep in mind I tried to make this list as objective as possible. Also, I am only doing 2000-present because football was much different back in the day. Even in the 2000s compared to the 2010s foot

Week 5 Bowling Green at Akron

Recap Well folks, we have hit rock bottom. Akron, who had 21 straight losses going into this game didn't just win, pounded us 31-3. I can get into more details but we have to let this loss hurt. We need the sting from this loss to motivate us to get into the weight room, study film, do the little things Scot Loeffler talks about doing 365 days a year to win. 1st Quarter Akron started with the ball and was able to quickly get down the field. However, the drive eventually stalled and the defense came up huge with a stop. The ensuing punt would symbolize the struggles of 2020 and the beginning of the end for BG's hopes at a win. Jake Rogers fumbled the punt and Akron started with the ball at the Bowling Green 10 yard line. The Orange and Brown defense would stand tall and hold Akron to a FG. The Falcons would then orchestrate a 16 play, 8 minute drive that would stall out in the redzone and resulted in a Nate Needham field goal. The first quarter flew by. BG's only offensive d

Week 4 Ohio vs BGSU Recap

Recap Yikes. I mean... yikes. This game was just more of the same but felt like our worst game of the year by far. I mean at one point it was first and goal from the 3 yard line and resulted in ZERO points. The game started okay but then a 70 yard touchdown run and a kick return touchdown right after we scored just killed the morale of the game. The defense was bad as usual as the Bobcats just ran every which way and even special teams had blunders. Let's dive into the recap. 1st Quarter Ohio scored 21 points in the first quarter. Oh yeah, it was ugly. Ohio drove down the field on their first drive and scored a rushing touchdown from 8 yards out by De'Monte Tuggle. A few minutes later, Tuggle scored again on a one play drive with a 70 yard rushing TD. The Falcons were then able to string together a nice drive, with Matt McDonald making some solid throws and Andrew Clair doing a great job on the ground. Shoutout to the O line for opening up big holes. BG settled for a FG but a
