State of the Program 12.17.2020

Well, yikes, geeze, andddddddd yikes again. Those were some of the thought I had throughout the 2020 season. However, I am PUMPED for 2021 and beyond. Turning this program around is almost as hard as putting a man on the moon. The fact that Loeffler only had one kid waiver after an 0-5 disaster of a season further proves he is the right man for the job. Let's take a look at some numbers.

12-41

That is Bowling Green's record over the past 5 season. Yikes it has felt that bad too as most of the losses have been absolute blowouts. This record was due to a few factors but mostly:

  1. Dino Babers lackluster recruiting
  2. Mike Jinks terrible attrition and development
  3. Chris Kingston being a flat out idiot
Babers won with a roster of 98% guys from the Dave Clawson regime. Mike Jinks was then brought into a bad position, having zero experience on his staff and never stepping foot in Ohio. I actually liked Jinks as a guy but he was just nowhere near qualified to be a head coach. He recruited well but a third of his kids transferred and he did not develop anyone. He was only hired because Chris Kingston could not leave BG until he hired a new coach so he picked the first guy he saw on a Google search for elite offenses.

26-13

This was the record of the final two seasons of Dave Clawson and the only two of Dino Babers. Clawson built this program up the right way, focusing on development and crushing the Ohio recruits. Clawson set the blueprint for getting this program right and Scot is following it to a T. Got to embrace the choppy waters the first few years.

14-23

Clawson struggled his first 3 years, with some people even calling for his job when he went 2-10 in 2010. Dave knew things had to get worse before they got better, and boy did they get better. BG won MAC Championships in 2013 and 2015, just a few years after Clawson reset the foundation of the program.

Future Outlook

I am so excited for the future. Scot always talks about being a winning program. That means lifting weights, conditioning, eating right, and keeping the grades up. We need young men who want to win everyday. Not when everything is going right, it is 75 and sunny. We need people that want to work hard when everything sucks, it is freezing cold, and everyone else is sleeping. Then, and only then, will we go To The Moon.
