CFB 2021 Win Totals

Sports Gambling has become much more mainstream over the last few years. If you or anyone you know has a problem, please reach out for help. There are many resources online to read or numbers to call. If you can handle it and stay responsible, sports betting can be a fun way to further enjoy college football. With DraftKings releasing their win totals last week I decided to come up with a list of 12 win totals that I will be betting on.

1. Bowling Green Over 1.5 wins

So, we have one of the the lowest win totals in the country tied with UMass at 1.5 wins. Not surprising, considering how crazy young this team is but I am betting on us! Week 3 we play Murray State who is a lower quality FCS school that should be a win. Then we would just need 1 more win the rest of the season. Realistically the best chances of that 2nd win coming against South Alabama, Akron, or Eastern Michigan.

2. UMass Over 1.5 wins

The other low win total is also some easy money in my head. UMass has 3rd year Coach Walt Bell at the helm trying to build a foundation similar to Coach Loeffler here at BG. UMass has been doing a great job getting quality kids from the Transfer Portal this offseason and should take a step in the right direction. Even if UMass still isn't a great team, they play 2 FCS schools. TWO FCS SCHOOLS!!! How is their win total only 1.5? They should also beat New Mexico State in their final game. This is a team who could go 4-8 at best, 2-10 at worst. No way they lose either of their FCS games. Give me the over!

3. UConn Over 2.5 wins

Staying in New England, we have the UConn Huskies at only 2.5 wins. This is another team that is playing TWO FCS SCHOOLs. This team has a lot of upperclassmen on it and they will not lose to an FCS school. So then the Huskies just need ONE win the rest of the year and have multiple chances to grab it. Fresno State, Wyoming, MTSU, and UMass give them 4 chances to just win one game to hit the over.

4. Illinois Over 3 wins

Coming back to the MidWest, Illinois has a total I just cannot pass up. The fighting Illini play two easy non conference games against UTSA and Charlotte. Then they have 10 games to win just ONE. This team can beat Northwestern, Purdue, even Rutgers. At the absolute worst, this team will go 3-9 and push the over.

5. Miami OH Over 4.5 wins

Coming back to the MAC for a few picks, Miami OH is a solid team that is undervalued in my mind. This team is very young and that is a downside but this team can still make a bowl game. Miami should have semi-easy wins against Bowling Green and Akron. The RedHawks also play LIU (an FCS school) and so 2 wins in their other 9 games is not a hard task. This team is very well coached, well run, and should go 5-7.

6. Central Michigan Over 6.5 wins

This CMU squad is my darkhorse team of 2021. This team is getting old and can bully people in the trenches. The young guys have had a lot of playing time over the last couple years. The Chips return over 80% of their production from last year and this team always is well coached. This team should beat FIU, Robert Morris, and NIU easily which means they will need to go 4-5 the rest of the season.

7. Eastern Michigan Under 6.5 wins

Eastern Michigan is 61st in returning production for this season. EMU has had 7 or more wins just twice since 1990. I think this team can be solid but 6-6 is what they do best. 5-7 is quite likely and the Eagles just never break through that bubble. My favorite under on the board.

8. Ball State Under 8 wins

The Ball State Cardinals had an amazing 2020 and captured the MAC Championship. This Cardinals team was fun to watch but this team may have just had lightning in a COVID bottle. They had the longest bowl game drought in the MAC up until last year and I cannot see them repeating. 8 wins is a lot and I love the under here cause even if they go 8-4 which would be insane we get the push.

9. Nebraska Under 6 wins

Feeling real good about this bet as well. Nebraska has yet to reach 6-6 under Scott Frost and this is not the year to break that cycle. They draw Michigan and Ohio State from the East division and Oklahoma as a non-con game. This team's absolute perfect season would result in 6-6 which would at worst push the bet.

10. New Mexico Under 4 wins

New Mexico has very little production returning last year from a season in which they went just 2-5. Their three seasons before that totaled just 8 wins so safe to assume this team will rest under 4 wins once again. Their non-cons are not too difficult but they always struggle against the other Mountain West schools and look for that to not stop now as their recruiting has not been great as of late.

11. New Mexico State Under 2 wins

Last and certainty least comes New Mexico State, a team that lost by 40 to an FCS school in the spring. Well luckily for them they won't lose to an FCS school in the fall as they have zero FCS games on the schedule. I fully believe this is the worst FBS right now and maybe ever as they have just one bowl appearance since 1961. I smell 0-12 coming let alone a push at 2-10 I will take this total under all day.

12. Wyoming Under 8 wins

Late addition to the list is Wyoming, who went just 2-5 last year but somehow have a win total of over/under 8 wins. I know they have been good as of late but the Cowboys have not hade more than 8 wins in a season since 1996. I know Wyoming does not play a single P5 team which is absurd but I still do not see this team going better than 8-4.
