State of the Program 9/14/2022
Well, sound the alarm bells. Listen, I hate when fans over react to one game, but FCS wins are a must. I know EKU is good this year, but they are still an FCS school that dropped 59 on us. BG was up 17-7 and then the game just fell off the rails. This is one of those losses that pretty much kills any bowl hopes. Unless this team digs in their heels, fight for Scot's job, and rattle off 6 MAC wins this staff is likely gone once a new AD is hired. So I will not even go too much into the future of other people's jobs until we have more information.

The Problems
I love Scot, I am a huge fan of Coach Loeffler. However, every place he has been an offensive coordinator, the offense got better the very next season he was hired. In my humble opinion, despite getting 57 points I still see a lot of problems with the offense. We have too many TEs on the field and play a pro style offense which just does not work in 2022 CFB. Unless you have an old, big offensive line (we do not) than you will see schools run spread out creative offenses. Teams like Coastal Carolina, Wake Forest (shoutout Dave Clawson), Kent State (shoutout Sean Lewis), and others continuously out perform their talent level because they get creative on offense. Teams that run a pro style offense, Texas AM, Notre Dame, New Mexico, Colorado State last year underperform talent. I would like to see us spread the ball around more, 23 completions is not enough in a 7 OT game. We just don't create easy throws for Matty and scheme our speed guys open for quick and easy completions.
The defense was awesome most of last year but just got carved up. The D line did a solid job getting sacks but we just continued to blitz and get our DBs burned 1v1. Re watch the game and you'll see us blitz and get zero pressure, then only pass rush 4 and get to the QB. EKU averaged TEN YARDS a completion because despite less talent, they ARE CREATIVE ON OFFENSE AND SCHEME PEOPLE OPEN. Its not rocket science.
Future Looking
If this team goes ahead and upsets Marshall or MS State then this EKU game can get a slight pass. Also, if we somehow make a bowl game or go at least 5-3 in MAC play I would also feel great about how this team rebounds. I never said going into the season it was bowl game or bust, but my golly you cannot get busted by Eastern Kentucky. All the talk, all the transfers, all the returning starters does not mean jack shit if you cannot win games on the field. We NEED to get the ball into the hands of CJ Lewis and Tyrone Broden more, 4 catches between the 2 against EKU is not enough. I still have faith in Coach Loeffler, but we need to see more.
Well said..... and I totally agree we gotta put our back's against the wall and come out fighting play every game as our last game and turn this shit around......go BG hope to meet you at the game one day....
