Season Review
The vibes should be fantastic across BG faithful. Listen, I was just as disappointed in the loss to Miami OH as anyone else. However, we still had our BEST MAC record since 2015 which is a really big deal. 6-2 is a fantastic conference record especially when it includes dropping 40 on Toledo's head and thrashing them. We also beat Western Michigan when we were both tied for first place in the MAC which at the time was a heavyweight PPV type league game. We beat our big time rival on a Saturday on THEIR turf, as well as beat our secondary rival (Kent State) again. We have now made a third straight bowl game and BG is firmly planted in the mid to upper tier of the conference, in a conference in which parity dominates.
Harold Fannin All American
Fannin has been voted to many All American teams, most importantly to me being the AFCA team. He was ROBBED of the Mackey Award which went to Penn State's Tyler Warren. Everyone except the people who vote knew it was wrong but the voters decided that because Fannin stuck with us that he needed to be punished which is a shame. No matter, because he will for sure get drafted to the NFL and is only 11 yards away from setting the FBS record for reception yards in a single season by a TE. Fannin has led Bowling Green in receiving yards in 10 of the 12 games this year, totaling1,342 yards for 9 scores in exactly 100 receptions.
Bowl Game
BG has been placed in the 68 Venture Bowl against Arkansas State in Mobile, Alabama. BG is currently a 7 point favorite. Ark State has had a really good season in a really good conference so this should be a really fun a competitive game. It is on Dec 26th so I will not be going but it is a stand alone game on ESPN which is fantastic brand exposure.
Extend Coach Loeffler Please
Scot Loeffler has built this program up from being an embarrassment to college football, a perennial bottom 25 team. He has set a good culture, has improved every year, and continues to have Toledo figured out. BG's MAC record the first 3 years was 4-14. BG's MAC record the last 3 years is 16-8. That is an insane difference and shows how this staff and culture has improved drastically. Coach has been hitting the portal super well, finding studs like Justin Pegues out of the FCS ranks, Rahkeem Smith out of FCS as well. Then you have 2 starting linemen from the portal (Jake Burns and Tunde Fatukasi), Malcolm Johnson Jr our leading WR from Auburn. Combining his portal savviness with his ever solid local high school recruiting, this program is right where it should be and Coach Loeffler is the right man for the job.
