 Drew Pyne Transfers To BGSU



    This kids, this is why I enjoy the portal. A high 3 star QB per 247 (the only recruiting site I trust) Drew Pyne won a state title in Connecticut power New Canaan and had offers from just about every big program in the nation. LSU, Bama, Auburn, FSU, and so on and he committed to Notre Dame. After being a starter for most of one season but never really gaining the true backing of QB1 Pyne went to Arizona State to backup there. Then he backed up at Missouri where he had one start last season in a win over Oklahoma. Pyne had some big wins at ND including an upset at Number 4 Clemson. So BG gets a very experienced 6th year senior who every top team in the country wanted lout of HS. 

    For Drew Pyne as a player I love this move. Career never got settled at the top levels of the sport so now you get to go down a level of competition and actually get the true faith of your coaches to lead a football team. For the QB position especially, the portal has proven all across the country that players want to PLAY football so many QBs would rather start at a MAC school then be a backup at Missouri. 

    This also is why I have been saying ever since 2020 there is no reason to start a lowly recruited QB anymore at Bowling Green. There will ALWAYS be a few former P4 QBs who lost their starting job and in their last year or two want to actually go out and start at a G5 school and enjoy football again. Look at Matt McDonald, Connor Bazelak, and now Drew Pyne. McDonald led our team when we had the worst roster in FBS football and still found a way to beat Minnesota before we finally got to a bowl in 2022. Bazelak then followed that up with an impressive 10-5 conference record over his 2 seasons (plus the Georgia Tech win). Cam Orth went 1-0 in MAC play in his career (another transfer). The last HS recruit to start a game for BG was Grant Loy in 2019.

    Ironically, Grant Loy transferred to Auburn (If I remember correctly) at the end of the season.

Eddie George To Retain 4 Coaches     4 BG Coaches Reported to be Retained     According to Football Scoop, Eddie George is retaining Greg Nosal, Derrick Jackson, Brian White, and Alex Bayer from Coach Loeffler's staff.      Alex Bayer in my opinion was a must keep for the new staff. A former player who won the 2013 MAC Championship with BG and had a cup of coffee in the NFL, he was coaching special teams and tight ends. The special teams was fantastic over the past 4 years under Loeffler and this staff and Harold Fannin just had BG's first All-American season under Bayer and so this move made all the sense in the world. Derrick Jackson coached this secondary that had the most takeaways in all of FBS, Greg Nosal has done a great job with the O line and co coordinating the offense.                                   Transfer Portal 2025     The transfer portal in my opinion is fun, good for players, and actually helps a school like Bowling Green.      The portal also has so many opportunities for different players. You have studs from the G5 move up to the SEC, P5 backups dropping down to start at G5 schools. You have FCS starters jumping up to FBS, also FCS backups who would rather be a backup at a FBS school. Many casual fans do not realize how valuable depth guys are and scout team players truly make big differences in practice. Even G5 guys would rather be a backup at an SEC school. So in my mind, the portal is a plus value.      This list may not be 100% accurate but is updated to the best of my knowledge. Coach Loeffler Leaves Bowling Green Personal Thoughts      I am so thankful for Coach Loeffler. On a personal note, he was always super kind to me, a lowly alumni trying to cover my team with my tiny little blog. When Coach Loeffler started following me on twitter and retweeting some of my tweets he gave me a lot of credit to other coaches, players, and media types. After my next training with the Army and Ranger school I will finally set up my own website and my growth is due in part to Coach Loeffler's kindness to me and his interview. Scot was super dedicated to the kids, the coaches, and put his 100% effort into rebuilding this football program for all of BG nation.  Football Thoughts      This stinks for BG Football.
