2021 Season Review

Image
I am gonna say it right now, this season was fun. Vegas had the over/under for our wins set at 1.5. BG ended up going 4-8 in Loeffler's 3rd year. That is way better than 0-5 last year, and even better than 3-9 in 2019. This team was still in the top 5 for youngest teams in FBS.    Going into this season I personally was hoping for 2-10, with some close losses sprinkled in. We got even more, 4 wins and 2-3 close losses. South Alabama was close, and NIU and Kent State were one score losses. Beating Buffalo in a shootout was crazy, as well as Minnesota which was unreal. I mean that game was just nuts. We ruined their homecoming as 31 point underdogs. Beating Ohio at the end of the season was also just a great way to end 2021 and go into the offseason with some momentum.  The offense struggled a bit outside of the Buffalo game, and the defense was good most games but had a few lapses. The incoming transfers made an immediate impact, and the young guys showed some great promis...

BGSU vs Minnesota Recap

Image
Biggest win in the past 6 years! Coach Loeffler, the staff, and the players just pulled off the biggest upset in 8 years of college football. 30.5 point underdogs on the road at Minnesota, on their homecoming, the Bowling Green Falcons just got a legacy win. Loeffler said he will get each player a game ball to remember the day it was an unreal game. Bowling Green has been a bottom 10 team in the country for the past 5 years, an upset a Big 10 team that has a much, MUCH better roster on paper. That's why we play the game folks.  1st Quarter The 1st quarter started out great for the defense, and poor but also expected for the offense. The offense did a lot of nothing, with the offensive line getting pushed around by Minnesota's fantastic defensive line. McDonald also threw a pick that allowed Minnesota to start with the football around the 25 yard line. Brock Horne had a huge sack early on that set the tone for the game.  2nd Quarter In the 2nd quarter, the Falcon offense capita...

Last second loss to South Alabama

Image
Heartbreaking, but Promising Listen, it would have been great to win this game. No doubt about that. However, the Falcons were 14.5 point underdogs and I even projected BG to loss this game without a doubt. Compared to previous years, losing a close game is a huge step in the rights direction but the youth of this roster showed as the Falcs could not close out this game.  @ToledoBlade 1st Quarter The 1st quarter started out about as good as it can for the Falcons. The offense looked shaky and could not really find much success. However, former walk-on Patrick Day blocked a punt for a safety for BG to go up 2-0. Later in the 1st quarter, Darren Anders got a clutch pick-6 and after missing the PAT BG was up 8-0. Neither team had any success on offense and the two defense played a great first quarter. 2nd Quarter In the 2nd quarter, the Falcon offense continued to struggle. BG cannot run the ball with this young offensive line and it really hindered the offense in the 1st half. Both d...

BGSU vs Tennessee Week 1 Preview

Image
I am not expecting a lot here. There really is not much of a preview to be honest. We are the 3rd youngest team in the country going against a team in the SEC that is no slouch. Josh Heupel knows this may be one of only a couple games on their plate that the offense can really pop. I am expecting this to be a blowout and I would not be upset by it at all.  Tennessee is under investigating by the NCAA that could lead to some nasty sanctions. Josh Heupel is the man tasked to carry this team threw the storm due in part to his creative offense. Keep in mind that Bowling Green last year lost to Akron by more than 30 last season, and this is an SEC team. They have a massive size and talent advantage that will allow them to practice their offensive schemes and fine tune their work. Joe Milton is the Vols starter and he should be able to stretch the field against our young defense. Scott Loeffler really needs more time, around 2023 to field a competitive team. Do not be upset if we lose by...

MAC Week 1 Gambling Corner

Image
Football is finally back, and as per request, I will be dishing out picks for every MAC game.  1. Western Illinois vs  Ball State  -25.5     Give me the Cards here. Western Illinois is a solid FCS school but I would look for Ball State to light it up big as they try and go back to back. 2.  Wagner  vs Buffalo -45     I would take Wagner here. This line is huge, and there is a chance that Wagner keeps it closer than people think as Buffalo transitions to a new coaching staff as well as losing many players to graduation.  3. Bowling Green vs  Tennessee  -34     BG lost by more than this to MAC teams last year. Easy pick, take the Vols. Josh Huepel is in his coaching debut, so look for him to run up the score.  4. St Francis vs  Eastern Michigan  -30.5     This one is tough, but take the Eagles. Eastern is experienced on the trenches and should look good on defense so maybe this game could c...

Transfer Portal Adds Needed Depth

Image
I am a huge fan of the transfer portal. It allows a school like ours to scoop up higher quality talent than we can recruit once these decide they want to transfer. Despite losing a lot of players to the portal this year, Scott Loeffler has done a quality job bringing in kids from high quality P5 schools to add to this team's depth and give these kids an opportunity to put up better numbers than at their previous destination. Let's take a look at the incoming players in no particular order. 1. Davon Ferguson DB Kansas Big 12          Davon comes into the program with 2 years of eligibility left. Ferguson decided to opt out the back half of Kansas' season in 2020 which is fair considering their coach was out the door. Coming to BG, Ferguson will add much needed depth to a very young defense. He is a guy who has been in a P5 college program for years now and can show some of these younger men how to be a D1 athlete. Coach Loeffler even said that Davon is a great ro...

CFB 2021 Win Totals

Image
Sports Gambling has become much more mainstream over the last few years. If you or anyone you know has a problem, please reach out for help. There are many resources online to read or numbers to call. If you can handle it and stay responsible, sports betting can be a fun way to further enjoy college football. With DraftKings releasing their win totals last week I decided to come up with a list of 12 win totals that I will be betting on.  1. Bowling Green Over 1.5 wins     So, we have one of the the lowest win totals in the country tied with UMass at 1.5 wins. Not surprising, considering how crazy young this team is but I am betting on us! Week 3 we play Murray State who is a lower quality FCS school that should be a win. Then we would just need 1 more win the rest of the season. Realistically the best chances of that 2nd win coming against South Alabama, Akron, or Eastern Michigan. 2. UMass Over 1.5 wins     The other low win total is also some easy money in my ...
