Top 5 Offensive Players to Watch in 2022
1. Jakari Robinson
Robinson started 24 games in his career at Cincinnati. Jakari is the oldest offensive lineman on the roster, with just one year of eligibility left. He is locked in as the starting center and will play a huge part in improving every aspect of the offensive line that struggled last season. In football at any level, the game is won in the trenches and the Falcons will need Jakari to have a big season to have any hopes of making a bowl game.
2. Matt McDonaldMcDonald is in his final year of eligibility as well, with one last chance to play college football. Matt started his career at Boston College with Coach Loeffler before transferring in 2019. After being denied immediate eligibility, McDonald played hurt in the COVID 2020, and then started all 12 games in 2021. McDonald will always have a BG legacy for being under center for the monumental upset of Minneosta on the road, rushing for 2 touchdowns. I've always said I have a ton of respect for Matt because he basically signed up to play on the most depleted BG roster in 20 years and help lay the foundation for other players down the line. Mike Jinks sank this program, while Loeffler and McDonald signed up to resurrect it. The QB takes the lump of the criticism along with the Head Coach so again, a lot of respect towards Matt. After throwing for 25 hundred yards, 12 TDs and 7 picks last year, I am hoping that those numbers arer closer to 30, 20, and 5 respectively.
Stewart is the most underrated player on this team. I have never seen a player get touched behind the line of scrimmage and then somehow get 5+ yards more than this guy. Stewart averaged 8 yards a carry in 2020, shining bright when the team was not. Last year, Terion averaged 6 yards a carry, on 70 carries with 5 touchdowns. If Terion had the o-line BGSU has had in the 2010s he could easily get 1500 yards. I think this season he will get closer to 1,000 yards but not sure if he can reach it due to the loaded RB room. Which is fine by me, as running back by committee works. Stewart has P5 talent and should see an increase in quality running lanes behind an older offensive line.
When Osborne transferred before last season I was hyped and predicted he would lead the team in receptions, which he did. Osborne caught 64 balls for 546 yards and 2 touchdowns. Osborne's best game came in the finale win at Ohio with 8 catches for 79 yards and the lone offensive touchdown. Going into 2022 I hope to see Osborne get more explosives plays and increase his average yards per reception. Could be harder to get more receptions as BG's WR room continues to get deeper, however that could lead to more open space as defenses have more skill players to worry about.
5. CJ Lewis
Lewis committed to Bowling Green yesterday (at the time of writing this) and I felt it necessary to add him to this list. Lewis was highly recruited out of high school and with only 1 year left to play will have a lot to prove. He had a great 2020 season against ACC defenses so hopefully the transitive property works out and he torches MAC defenses. Coach Loeffler and Matt McDonald are familiar with CJ so I think to go out and get a player with just 1 year left means he should be slotted as a Day 1 starter or at least a tier 1 role player.

Talent level is the highest since 2015. I just hope our always-harder-than-it-has-to-be non-conference schedule with 2 Power 5 road games doesn't cause injuries or stop momentum.
ReplyDeleteNeed those games to make budget. Marshall is gonna be really good this year so that game is the benchmark for this team
