Bowling Green vs Toledo Recap 11/15/2022

Bowling Green Stuns Rival in Battle of I-75!      Bowling Green wins an instant classic in the storied history of BGSU vs Toledo. The premiere MAC rivalry separated by just 25 miles, these 2 schools have had an amazing rivalry however Toledo has won 11 of the last 12 matchups. Entering the night as 15.5 point underdogs, BG started off hot and eventually had to make a historic 1 minute drive to pull off the upset 42-35. This not only was a huge rivalry win but Bowling Green is now BOWL ELIGIBLE for the first time since 2015. Not to mention this is the first win at the Glass Bowl since 2008. On top of all of that, BG is still alive to win the MAC East. I will also just say it here, the refs were absolute clowns and should all be fired. Even the broadcast team thought it was crazy, the refs were absolute idiot clowns all night and even the broadcast team thought it was wild all the missed called on the Falcons. Justice prevailed luckily as the Falcons capped off a historic game.  photo: B

State of the Program 11/11/2022

Yes, this State of the Program blog is coming off of the Kent State disaster. I might not even recap the game, I can sum it up in two sentences. The offense is an absolute disaster, the line needs to find some answers, Kent mopped our own field with us in a 40-6 burial. The defense actually played fine, pitching a first quarter shutout. There is only so much you can do when the offense cannot move the ball. BG also capped off a 3 game win streak, going 2-1 since the Miami OH game when in my State of the Program blog back then basically said CMU and WMU were must win to go bowling. I am still feeling pretty good about where we are at right now, but I wanted to highlight some stats I took the time to find, they are alarming in terms of trying to make a bowl game.      The last time BG has beaten a team that ended MAC play with a winning record was 2015, the last year BG went bowling and won the MAC. Here is the MAC records of our wins broken down by the year/coach that won the games.

BG Sports Preview Week of 11/7/2022

Bowling Green  Weekly  Sports Preview     This week is highlighted by the last home game for football, as well as the start of basketball season!   photo credit: BG Athletics  Monday WBB BGSU 0-0 (0-0) at Saint Bonaventure  0-0 (0-0) MBB BGSU 0-0 (0-0) vs Air Force  0-0 (0-0)     Basketball season tips off tonight. This is kind of a prove it year for Coach Michael Huger in my opinion, as the Falcons outside of the 2020 cut short season have not had much success. With a new AD in town, it is not a settled situation. BG has opened as 2.5 point favorites against Air Force. For the ladies, Coach Fralick's squad returns a lot of key players and will face a SBU team that lost almost all of their production from last year. Both games will be on ESPN platforms.  Wednesday FB BGSU 5-4 (4-1) vs Kent State 3-6 (2-3)     Massive game for the boys as midweek MACtion rolls on. The last home game, as BG needs just one win to go bowling for the first time since 2015. Kent is only 3-6 but they are

Looking back at BG's last 3 game win streak

BG with first 3 game win streak since 2016       The 2022 BG Falcons have the first 3 game win streak since 2016. That is a tough thing to hear, emphasizing how dreadful the on field product has been since Bowling Green's mini dynasty from 2013-2015. I decided to take a look back at how long it has truly been. I was a freshman in college and was so excited to embrace this team, excited to be a fan of a team coming off of a MAC Championship. The hire of Mike Jinks started off dreadfully 1-8, finishing the year with 3 straight MAC wins. BG beat Akron 38-28 on the road, then 2 straight home wins against Kent State 42-7 and Buffalo 27-19.  photo credit: The Toledo Blade (RB Josh Cleveland against Buffalo)      It has been just under 6 years since BG's last 3 game win streak. 6 YEARS!!!  Mike Jinks had just gotten his 3rd FBS win, would only end his tenure with 5 Redshirt Freshman James Morgan was the starting QB for all 3 games. Morgan would transfer to FIU after 2017, eventually s

Bowling Green Wins Defensive Battle, One Win Away From Bowling!      Bowling Green continues to win, as the Falcons now are on a 3 game win streak! The Falcons were able to hold on to beat WMU and improve to 4-1 in MAC play. BG went up 13-0 and were not able to get clicking on offense, with defense and special teams straight up winning this game. Jordan Anderson, Karl Brooks, Chris Bacon, Darren Anders, and DJ Taylor led the way to a complete team effort on defense. Ta'ron Keith and Sami Sir had massive days on special teams, and Matt McDonald and the offense did just enough to get the Orange and Brown to 5-4. The Falcons now need just one more win against either Kent State, Toledo, or Ohio to end the longest bowl drought in the MAC. BGSU is also tied for 1st in the MAC East.  photo: BGSU Athletics 1st Quarter       The first quarter saw the defense set a tone that would hold all game. The BG defense forced a punt after giving up just one 1st down. After moving the chains with a Ta
