BGSU 2025 Schedule Preview

Football is just a couple days away for the Falcons and it is time for me (the #1 BG expert) to predict each game the boys will play this year. We have finally left the dumpster of FBS football and have made 3 straight bowl games. With Coach Loeffler off to the NFL it is time for legend Eddie George to steer the ship. 

Game 1: Lafayette 1–0

This is a dub for the boys and I think by a lot. The line is -14.5 right now and I would be a bit worried if BG cannot win by at least 17. Lafayette was just 2–4 in the Patriot league last year and that is not a good FCS conference. 

Game 2: at Cincinnati 1–1

This is a loss. I would be shocked if this was a win. BG under Coach Loeffler pulled upsets like this off at Minnesota and at Georgia Tech but I have to pick this games based on the most likely scenarios. Loss. 

Game 3: Liberty 1–2

Liberty pays there coach roughly 6x what Bowling Green pays Eddie George. They spend like a Power 4 team and will probably dominate CUSA this year. Jamey Chadwell is a stud and this team could make the playoff this year. Should be a loss. 

Game 4: at Louisville 1–3

The Cardinals are loaded up this year under HC Jeff Brohm and this game has no prayer for the Falcons. Loss. 

Game 5: at Ohio 1–4

Ohio is defending the MAC Championship this year and will probably have another good year as they have 30 wins in 3 years. This win would be an absolute STATEMENT if BG finds a way to win, which I doubt. 

Game 6: Toledo 2–4

I think Toledo is very good this year but this is my “Eddie George is here” game. The Falcons win and cement the George era as getting off to a hot start similar to Scot Loeffler getting a home I75 win in his first year. 

Game 7: Central Michigan 2–5

Emotional letdown after the huge Toledo win and CMU should be much better under Matt Drinkall who comes over from Army. I think BG’s defense will take a step back in the trenches this year and CMU’s run game should exploit it. 

Game 8: at Kent State 3–5

A get right game against the worst team in the country. This is kind of a rivalry game and this may be the MAC game where Coach George and the Falcons can really flex on someone and let out some frustrations on our little brother. 

Game 9: Buffalo 3–6

Pete Lembo is a really good coach and I think Buffalo will be in Detroit by the end of the year. This would be another REALLY good win for the Falcons if they can get it done but I think Buffalo is favored. 

Game 10: at Eastern Michigan 4–6

The Eagles faltered after a 5–2 start to 2024 to miss a bowl game and this could be a prime candidate to lose some faith in a long tenured coach late in the year if the Eagles have already lost a bunch of games. This late in the season BG’s veteran O Line should be controlling games here and mashing people. 

Game 11: Akron 5–6

The Zips cannot even go bowling this year because of their APR scores so they probably have quit on the year and they will probably suck anyways. Falcons get the final home win of the year here and put all the pressure onto the last game of the season. 

Game 12: at UMass 6–6

Bowling Green gets it done to end the year on a high note. Eddie George guides the Falcons to a bowl game in year one to cap the 3 game winning streak and send Bowling Green to a 4th straight bowl which would be a nice season in year 1 under a new coach.

Eddie George To Retain 4 Coaches     4 BG Coaches Reported to be Retained     According to Football Scoop, Eddie George is retaining Greg Nosal, Derrick Jackson, Brian White, and Alex Bayer from Coach Loeffler's staff.      Alex Bayer in my opinion was a must keep for the new staff. A former player who won the 2013 MAC Championship with BG and had a cup of coffee in the NFL, he was coaching special teams and tight ends. The special teams was fantastic over the past 4 years under Loeffler and this staff and Harold Fannin just had BG's first All-American season under Bayer and so this move made all the sense in the world. Derrick Jackson coached this secondary that had the most takeaways in all of FBS, Greg Nosal has done a great job with the O line and co coordinating the offense. Transfer Portal 2025

                                  Transfer Portal 2025     The transfer portal in my opinion is fun, good for players, and actually helps a school like Bowling Green.      The portal also has so many opportunities for different players. You have studs from the G5 move up to the SEC, P5 backups dropping down to start at G5 schools. You have FCS starters jumping up to FBS, also FCS backups who would rather be a backup at a FBS school. Many casual fans do not realize how valuable depth guys are and scout team players truly make big differences in practice. Even G5 guys would rather be a backup at an SEC school. So in my mind, the portal is a plus value.      This list may not be 100% accurate but is updated to the best of my knowledge. I am going to give my opinions on each player, not meaning any disrespect but just an honest assessment of each player...

Coach Loeffler Leaves Bowling Green

Coach Loeffler Leaves Bowling Green Personal Thoughts      I am so thankful for Coach Loeffler. On a personal note, he was always super kind to me, a lowly alumni trying to cover my team with my tiny little blog. When Coach Loeffler started following me on twitter and retweeting some of my tweets he gave me a lot of credit to other coaches, players, and media types. After my next training with the Army and Ranger school I will finally set up my own website and my growth is due in part to Coach Loeffler's kindness to me and his interview. Scot was super dedicated to the kids, the coaches, and put his 100% effort into rebuilding this football program for all of BG nation.  Football Thoughts      This stinks for BG Football. BG has gotten better every year and is now firmly a top tier school in the MAC. We beat bad teams and battle the good teams.
