Way Too Early 2021 Schedule Preview

The 2021 season is going to be a lot of fun because of how whacky 2020 was. Hopefully, Scot Loeffler and company can take a step forward this year although it will be an uphill battle. Here is my prediction for the season even though there is a lot more information that can come out such as more transfers, coaching changes, or position battles.





Week 1: Tennessee L 13-59

Week 2: South Alabama W 38-24

Week 3: Murray State W 45-17

Week 4: Minnesota L 24-48

Week 5: Kent State L 17-51

Week 6: Akron W 28-24

Week 7: NIU L 21-38

Week 8: Eastern Michigan W 35-31

Week 9: Buffalo L 10-31

Week 10: Toledo L 14-35

Week 11: Miami OH L 24-27

Week 12: Ohio L 19-31

Overall: 4-8

Window: 2-4 wins

I think this team will go 4-8 as of now, but put the floor at 2 wins and the ceiling at 4. I feel that is really fair considering Loeffler has yet to get more than 3 wins and make a bowl game. Anything less than 2 wins and he should be on the hot seat because we should start with 1 win against Murray State. Getting more than 4 would be amazing. I see this team at 4-8 right now but 6-6 and a bowl game would be a huge step forward. This team is still very VERY young and just needs some game reps.

  Transfer Portal 2024     The transfer portal in my opinion is fun, good for players, and actually helps a school like Bowling Green.      The portal also has so many opportunities for different players. You have studs from the G5 move up to the SEC, P5 backups dropping down to start at G5 schools. You have FCS starters jumping up to FBS, also FCS backups who would rather be a backup at a FBS school. Many casual fans do not realize how valuable depth guys are and scout team players truly make big differences in practice. Even G5 guys would rather be a backup at an SEC school. So in my mind, the portal is a plus value.      This list may not be 100% accurate but is updated to the best of my knowledge. Bowling Green Clinches First Winning Record Since 2015!! (photo via BG Athletics)     Scot Loeffler said it weeks ago, this team has a chance to do something special. I would say beating a Power 5 team on the road, going 5-3 in the MAC and blowing some teams out qualifies as special. Think back to just a few years ago. Mike Jinks' BG team was going 2-10, players getting arrested, zero culture, zero love for the school and the traditions. Now Coach Loeffler in another seemingly do or die season has showed up, showed out, and needs a contract extension ASAP. Now that I am no longer traveling, let's cover a few recent football topics.  1. 4 Game Winning Streak     For the first time since 2015, Bowling Green football won 4 games in a row. Buffalo beat us last year, Akron has had our number recently under Tom Arth, Ball State is still coached by MAC Champions Mike Nue and had 22 seniors, and Kent was 5-0 in their last 5 against us. The MAC says Goodbye to Divisions, Hello to Pods     Okay, I am coming around to the pod formatting. My first thought was hey, this is super dumb. Why are we changing the format that between 2015-2021 never had a single team win the MAC Championship twice? The unmatched parity is the best thing about the MAC. Let's take a look at the pros and cons. Pros: 1. The MAC Championship is elevated. I am hoping this does not come at the cost of the beloved parity in the league, but the Championship game will be better. There have been years, most recently in 2022 where even though Toledo won, they were the 4th best team overall in the standings behind Ohio, Buffalo, and BGSU. So in theory if there is a year where instead of a 10-2 and 7-5 team facing off, there could be the 10-2 team and a 9-3 team who's only MAC lost was to the 10 win team in their division.  2.
