2022 Non Conference Recap

Image
2022 Non Conference Recap I like to break down the season just like Coach Loeffler does. There is the 4 game non-conference season, the 4 Saturday MAC games, and the 4 weeknight MAC games. So lets break down the non-con.  photo: BGSU Athletics  The Good 1. Pulled off an upset The win over Marshall in my mind is the 2nd best win in the Scot Loeffler era, and better than any win from the previous coaching regime. 20 point underdogs, coming off the tough loss to EKU, as I said before this was an absolute statement of heart, care, and love for this program by the coaches and players. Even after going down 14-0 FAST, this team buckled down and battled for that win. Marshall had just beaten the 8th ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish, and BG pulled through for the overtime winner.  2. Seen offensive growth The run game still has not seemed to be where Coach Loeffler would like, but my word the passing game is way better. I was begging to see this type of offense with all these wea...

Marshall vs Bowling Green 9/17/2022

Bowling Green shocks the world on the 100th homecoming game! Wow oh wow, what a WIN!!! On BGSU's 100th homecoming, we hosted a Marshall team that just went to the #8 Notre Dame's home turf and beat them down. It looked like the same could be true at Doyt L Perry Stadium but this team made the biggest statement of heart, leadership, and culture I have ever seen. Coach Loeffler shows once again what makes him so special. Toledo in 2019, Minnesota in 2021, Marshall in 2022, Coach Loeffler pulls another rabbit out of the hat. It was heart, it was care, and for the first time in a long time at Bowling Green, the offensive line was given the game ball as Kam Stewart, Jeremiah Banks-Wall, Cedric Dunbar, Jalen Grant, Bronson Warner, Alex Wollschlaeger played an amazing game against a star studded front for Marshall. photo: BGSU Athletics 1st Quarter  This game started out exactly how everyone outside this team expected it to. The Marshall team that just beat the dog shit out of Notre D...

State of the Program 9/14/2022

Well, sound the alarm bells. Listen, I hate when fans over react to one game, but FCS wins are a must. I know EKU is good this year, but they are still an FCS school that dropped 59 on us. BG was up 17-7 and then the game just fell off the rails. This is one of those losses that pretty much kills any bowl hopes. Unless this team digs in their heels, fight for Scot's job, and rattle off 6 MAC wins this staff is likely gone once a new AD is hired. So I will not even go too much into the future of other people's jobs until we have more information.  photo: The Toledo Blade The Problems I love Scot, I am a huge fan of Coach Loeffler. However, every place he has been an offensive coordinator, the offense got better the very next season he was hired. In my humble opinion, despite getting 57 points I still see a lot of problems with the offense. We have too many TEs on the field and play a pro style offense which just does not work in 2022 CFB. Unless you have an old, big offensive li...

CFB Win Totals 2022

Image
2022 CFB Win Totals Last season, I went 8-3-1 in my win total locks. That is fantastic in case it wasn't clear. This season I am taking the same approach, sticking with teams I know instead of chasing the big names. Some of these are gross, some may even be ugly, but they don't have to be pretty to win. Sports gambling is fun and has become more mainstream in recent years, but as always, stay safe. Don't bet money you wouldn't mind seeing be lit on fire.  1. Bowling Green Over 3.5 wins     This win total is 2 games higher than last year's win total of 1.5. Last season BGSU went 4-8 with a YOUNG roster. I mean YOUNG. Crushing the win total over before conference play even began. I think this team is poised to make another step forward, possibly even go bowling for the first time since 2015. The non-con is tough but I am still pretty certain this team's absolute floor is going 4-8. MAC play is always a toss up and with 17 incoming transfers I think Vegas is goi...

Bowling Green Top 5 Defensive Players 2022

Image
Top 5 Defensive Players to Watch in 2022 1. Karl Brooks Brooks is a veteran on this defense, a guy that has been here since the Mike Jinks era. Brooks is in his final season of eligibility and will need to anchor this strong defense in the trenches. Brooks led the line in tackles last year, as well as racking up 6.5 sacks. A returning captain, Brooks will not only need to be a problem for opposing offenses, but really lead this defense especially when the offense may be struggling.   2. Davon Ferguson Ferguson was injured and missed some time last year but when he was on the field he was a dawg. A hard hitter and an older player who knows how to grit and grind. Ferguson has made it clear that after a few years at Kansas, making a bowl game is his ultimate goal. 2022 is his last chance and I am expecting big time things this year.  3. Darren Anders Anders led the falcons in tackles with 124. An insane amount of tackles, Anders is another homegrown talent who has bee...
